Now for those who have turned 100!

VERA GARDNER

Vera was born 18 October 1920. She started playing golf in the late 1950’s after her youngest child commenced school. During her golfing career she played in the Kyogle pennants team, attended many an Open Day and actively supported all facets of the club. Vera enjoyed playing mixed golf with her husband Stuart and enjoyed caddying in Championships and Pennant finals. Vera and Stuart participated in many Veteran’s Tournaments including New Zealand, Fiji, Perth and Darwin. Owing to her failing eyesight Vera had to forego playing golf in 2005, but she has continued her annual membership of the NSW Veteran’s Association. She has continued to be involved with ladies’ golf including travelling with them on their many bus trips away as a supporter as well as to enjoy the camaraderie!

In recognition of her involvement and support of the club, Vera was awarded Life Membership in 2007. She still takes a keen interest in the activities of the Kyogle Golf Club, however owing to COVID restrictions she is unable to continue her regular visits to the club for various functions especially Friday night dinner and raffles and her mandatory “7 of New”! Her family had arranged messages from The Queen as well as The Pope!!!

We sent Peg Griffiths the Delegate one of our logo glasses and a donation to pay for engraving and some flowers to celebrate Vera’s birthday

She wrote “Thank you for helping to make her day memorable!”

MARJ BRADD

Marj Bradd has been a financial VWGA member, since 1976.  She was a member at Bankstown, then Nowra and now Shoalhaven Heads. Marj was 100 on the 14th of October 2020.  This is a milestone as is being a member of the VWGA for 44 years.

Marj was still playing competition golf at the age of 98, (her handicap was around 38 to 40 which is pretty impressive for someone of that age, and she at times would win nearest the pin, or longest drive, (in 3rd division) but due to injury was unable to play most of last year and she had hoped to return to competition this year, but due to Corona virus that has not eventuated.

Marj has been a mentor to younger members and in the inaugural days of the club volunteered with her husband George (deceased) a lot of her time to help make Shoalhaven Heads the Club it is today.
In 2019 the Ladies Committee appointed Marj as the Patron, an honour Marj was incredibly happy to accept.

We sent Irene Shoalhaven Heads Delegate one of our logo glasses and a donation to pay for engraving and a gift to celebrate Marg’s birthday.

She wrote “Marj has asked me to write on her behalf and thank the Committee for the wonderful gifts and their kindness in helping her celebrate her 100th birthday.  She was very touched.

Some of the Shoalhaven Heads ladies met up the road and then walked to Marj’s house, they stood on the front lawn and wished her a happy birthday ensuring social distancing was adhered to.  Marj was really surprised when she was presented with her gifts.

MARGARET TANNER

Margaret turned 100 years of age on 8 May 2020.  She joined Lane Cove Country Club on 12 September 1961 as a Foundation Member. In 1979, the club suffered major financial difficulties and Margaret was one of the members to buy a $500 debenture to keep it afloat. In return these members were recognized as a “Member for Life”. On 12 September 2006 Margaret celebrated 45 Years of Membership at LCCC

Margaret was the first Sunday golfer to hit off the first tee in a competition at LCCC.  She is the longest playing member the club has had. Her good health and longevity of life is due to regularly playing golf, doing yoga and constantly being active.

In 1997 Margaret achieved a Hole-In-One on the sixth hole which was very exciting for her In 1997 Margaret achieved a Hole-In-One on the sixth hole which was very exciting for her.
